Frequently asked questions

Still not sure? Everything you need to know before you start.

The EAA is an EU directive that became enforceable on 28 June 2025. It requires all businesses selling products or services in the EU, including e-commerce stores, to meet digital accessibility standards. This includes image alt text, which must describe images for screen readers. If your store has customers in any EU country, EAA applies to you regardless of where your business is based. Fines for non-compliance can reach €100,000.

WCAG 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) Level AA is the technical standard the EAA requires. It defines how alt text must be written: it must describe the content and purpose of an image, be concise (under 150 characters), and avoid phrases like "image of" or "photo of". Altvisor generates alt text that meets this standard automatically.

Annex V is the official accessibility statement format required by the EAA. It is a signed document you publish on your website declaring that your store meets EAA requirements. Altvisor generates and signs this document for you on Growth and Business plans. Without it, your compliance is incomplete even if your alt text is correct.

For a typical Shopify or WooCommerce store with 200–500 products and 3–5 images per product, you need 600–2,500 images processed per month. Our Starter plan (600 images) covers small stores; Growth (2,500) fits most active stores. Unused images roll over for up to 3 months, so seasonal spikes are covered.

No. Images are processed in memory and deleted immediately after alt text is generated. We store only the image URL and the generated alt text in your account. We never use your data to train AI models. All processing happens on EU infrastructure.

All plans support all 24 official EU languages for alt text. Set a default language per organisation, or override it per generation request when a catalog needs another EU language.

Yes. Cancel from your account settings. No phone call, no form, no notice period. Your plan stays active until the end of the billing period. Any generated alt text stays on your website permanently after cancellation.

We have native plugins for Shopify and WordPress (including WooCommerce). A Chrome extension works with any website for manual generation. An API is available on Growth and Business plans for custom integrations. If you use Magento, PrestaShop, or another platform, contact us.

For single images, manual writing is fine. For a store with 500+ products and regular new arrivals, manual writing takes hours every month and is error-prone. Altvisor handles new images automatically: the moment you upload a product photo, alt text is generated. For most stores, setup takes under 5 minutes.

Your rolled-over credits are used first. If those run out too, image generation pauses. We do not auto-charge you. You can upgrade your plan or wait for the next billing cycle. Existing alt text on your site is never deleted.
